WMJI Moondog Coronation Ball
April – 8-10,000 attendees
The Moondog Coronation Ball is an annual “Classic Hits” concert paying tribute to the original Moondog Coronation Ball that took place over 60 years ago. Artists that have performed at this show include Three Dog Night, Smokey Robinson, Grand Funk Railroad, Tommy James & the Shondells, and Little Richard. The concert is traditionally held in April and has had a range of 8,000 – 10,000 attendees throughout the years.
July – 20,000+ attendees
WMMS’ morning show Rover’s Morning Glory hosts this annual party/outdoor music festival that draws huge crowds. From a free event on West 6th Street in 2008 to now year 10, drawing 20,000 plus attendees in a festival setting. The festival features all-day music, activity zone entertainment, an autograph tent, the Miss Morning Glory calendar girl search, and more. Acts that have performed at Roverfest include Bush, Ludacris, Nelly, Chevelle, Lil John, T-Pain, Trapt, P.O.D., and Flo Rida. The crowd for this event ranges in size from around 18,000 – 20,000 attendees.
Alan Cox Comedy Tour
May – 500+ attendees
The Alan Cox Show Comedy Tour traditionally occurs in May each year at two venues. This year will mark the 9th year with performances at The House of Blues and The Kent Stage. The stand-up comedy show features Alan Cox and Bill Squire of WMMS’ afternoon show The Alan Cox Show as well as local and national comedians. Past comedians include Mike Polk Jr., Mary Santora, Ramon Rivas, Ryan Dalton, and Juanda Mayfield. The show is traditionally a sellout, bringing in crowds of over 400 – 800 people depending on the venue.
WGAR Country Jam
August – 8-10,000 attendees
Country Jam has been a country music staple in Northern Ohio since it’s inauguration in 1991. This is an all-day country music festival complete with vendors, refreshments, and entertainment. Country music superstars that have performed at this annual concert include Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Trace Adkins, Chris Young, Josh Turner, Darius Rucker, Sara Evans, and Gary Allen. Held in August, the show has had a range of 8,000 – 10,000 attendees throughout the years.
St. Jude’s Radiothon
Each December WGAR teams up with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for our annual 2 day radiothon. Over the past 15 years, WGAR has raised over $3,000,000 for the children of St. Jude. The 2 day on-air event is also celebrate with our annual Autograph Store on the first floor of our building where hundreds of autographed items are sold with proceeds going directly to the hospital. No family EVER receives a bill from St. Jude and WGAR is committed to keeping that mission alive.
Guitars for Girls
October – Benefit Concert, 2,000 attendees
Guitars for Girls is a WGAR annual benefit concert for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment held at Lorain County Community College. Country music entertainers that have performed at this fundraiser show include Jennifer Nettles, Sara Evans, LeAnn Rimes, Wynonna, Kelsea Ballerini, Thompson Square, and Kane Brown. The show has approximately 1,000 attendees each October raising nearly $30,000 annually for Komen.
Meet the Machines
June – 2-4,000 families
Meet the Machines is a free outdoor event that is open to people of all ages where local companies display and sample their products. The event is family friendly with interactive displays, live stage shows and family-friendly entertainment. However, the event is also intended to be seen as a job creator and eye opener for people who might be interested in working in careers where these company’s machines would be used. Sponsored by CAT Construction Equipment and 106.5 The Lake and held at Legacy Village Mall, the event brings in 1,000 people each year.
WHLK 80’s Cruise
July – 500 attendees – Nautica Cruise
The LAKE’s 80’s cruise is traditionally held in mid-summer, either June or July to capture the beauty of a Cleveland Summer Day. The 2.5-hour cruise includes music from a live band, free food, drink specials and 80’s themed games and prizes. The only way on The LAKE’s 80’s cruise on The Nautica Queen is to win them from the radio station, and it’s always a highlight sought after ticket. Max capacity on The Nautica Queen is 350 attendees.
Kiss FM’s Rock Your Prom
Each February, KISS FM runs an on-air contest to throw an unforgettable prom for a local school. Teamed up with Rock the House Entertainment, KISS FM runs a voting contest on KISSCLEVELAND.com to determine which school will win the event. Promo is typically happens in May and is hosted by KISS FM personalities and Party Pana is the official club DJ for the event. We ROCKED Chardon High School in 2012, We ROCKED Midview High School in 2013, We ROCKED West Geauga in 2014, We ROCKED Valley Forge High School in 2015, We ROCKED Berea-Midpark High School in 2016, and we ROCKED Brookside High School in 2017… will your school be next?
